New patients

Everything you need for a first appointment with Dr. Narain — how to get on the schedule, what to bring, and what the visit itself looks like.

Getting started

Three steps to your first visit

Call the office

Call (559) 875-5545 Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. Have your insurance card handy — our staff will verify your coverage and find an appointment time that works.

Complete your paperwork

Arrive about 15 minutes early and our front desk will hand you the registration and medical history forms. Bringing the checklist below with you makes them quick to fill out.

Come in and meet Dr. Narain

A first visit usually runs 30 to 45 minutes. Bring your questions — this appointment is for building a full picture of your health, not just handling one complaint.

Checklist

What to bring

  • Photo ID (driver’s license or state ID)
  • Your insurance card, and your Medicare card if you have one
  • Every medication you take — the bottles themselves are best, including vitamins and supplements
  • Records, lab results, or imaging reports from previous doctors, if you have them
  • A list of your surgeries and hospital stays, with approximate dates
  • The names of any specialists you currently see
  • Your questions, written down — it’s easy to forget them in the room
Your first visit

What to expect

Plan on 30 to 45 minutes. The first appointment is longer than the ones that follow, because Dr. Narain is building the full picture rather than treating a single complaint.

  • Vitals first — blood pressure, pulse, weight, temperature.
  • A conversation about your history, your family’s history, and what you are dealing with now.
  • A physical exam, focused on whatever the conversation surfaced.
  • Lab work if it is needed — usually drawn the same day.
  • A plan you leave with: what changes, what gets watched, when to come back.

Paperwork is filled out in the waiting room, so arriving 15 minutes early keeps your appointment on time.

Office policies

Common questions

How do I request a prescription refill?

The fastest route is to ask your pharmacy to send the refill request to our office — they can fax it to (559) 875-1211. Please allow two business days. Some medications require an office visit before they can be refilled.

How do I get my lab or test results?

Our office contacts you once Dr. Narain has reviewed your results. If you haven’t heard back within a week, please call — results occasionally get delayed at the lab, and we would rather you check than wait.

How do I transfer my records from another doctor?

Call the office and we will send you a records release to sign. We will send it to your previous physician and follow up. Records typically take one to three weeks to arrive, so it helps to start this before your first visit.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Please call at least 24 hours ahead so we can offer the time to another patient who needs it. There is no charge for a cancellation made with notice.

What do I do after hours or in an emergency?

For a true emergency — chest pain, trouble breathing, signs of a stroke, serious injury — call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room immediately. For non-urgent questions after hours, leave a message at (559) 875-5545 and our staff will return your call the next business day.

Do you see children?

Dr. Narain is an internist, which means his practice is devoted to adults. For children, our staff is glad to point you toward a pediatrician or family physician in the area.

Questions before you come in?

Our staff is happy to walk you through insurance, forms, or directions.
