This policy describes how Gurinder Narain, MD (“the practice,” “we,” “us”) at 800 N Street, Sanger, California 93657 collects, uses, and protects information. Questions about anything below can be directed to the office at (559) 875-5545.

1. Text messaging (SMS)

Consent

By texting JOIN to (559) 875-5545, or by giving the office your mobile number and agreeing to receive text messages, you consent to receive SMS messages from Gurinder Narain, MD. Consent is not a condition of receiving care, and you may decline or withdraw it at any time without affecting your treatment.

What we send

Appointment scheduling and reminders, prescription refill notices, instructions related to your care, replies to questions you send us, and occasional office announcements such as a change in hours. We do not send marketing or promotional text messages.

Frequency and cost

Message frequency varies and depends on your care. Message and data rates may apply — the practice does not charge for text messages, but your mobile carrier may.

Stopping messages and getting help

Reply STOP at any time to unsubscribe. You will receive one confirmation message and then no further texts. Reply HELP for assistance, or call the office at (559) 875-5545 during business hours.

Your mobile information is not shared

Your mobile number is used only to deliver the messages described above. We share it with our messaging service provider solely to send those messages on our behalf, and that provider is not permitted to use it for any other purpose.

Text messages are not a secure channel

Standard text messages are not encrypted and can be read by anyone with access to your phone. We keep the health information in our texts to a minimum for that reason. Please do not use text messages for urgent medical problems — for an emergency, call 911.

2. This website

This site has no contact forms, no patient portal, no accounts, and no advertising or analytics trackers. Nothing you type is collected, because there is nowhere on the site to type anything.

Two ordinary things still happen when any web page loads. Our web host records standard server logs — the requesting IP address, the page requested, and the time — which are used to keep the site running and secure. The site also loads its typeface and photographs from outside services, which means those services receive your IP address as part of delivering the file, exactly as they would on any site that uses them.

One preference is stored in your own browser: whether you are reading the site in English or Spanish. It never leaves your device and we cannot see it.

3. Your medical record

The health information in your chart is protected under HIPAA and California law, and is governed by our Notice of Privacy Practices — a separate document that explains how your medical information may be used and disclosed, and the rights you have over it. A copy is provided at your first visit and is available at the front desk at any time. Ask us and we will hand you one.

This privacy policy does not replace that notice. Where the two ever appear to differ on the handling of medical information, the Notice of Privacy Practices governs.

4. Children

This is an adult internal medicine practice. The website is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

5. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date at the top. Material changes to how we handle text messages will be communicated to enrolled patients by text before they take effect.
